One thing I should have done (as advised by a former student) is to send out email requests to potential interviewees as early as possible in the course as not all will respond. Because I didn’t do this I was late submitting my assignment which was due at the beginning of May. I was thrilled to finally get four photographers’ willing to connect with me.
L/O Develop knowledge of the photography industry and visual arts sector.
CREATIVITY.
My choice of interviewees was carefully considered, they were from varying backgrounds and different nationalities. I chose to research photographers’ in the industry whose work is relevant to my own personal practice and who inspire me. I wanted to understand not only the practicalities of working with a personally held archive but take into consideration the emotive aspect and how this affects the outcome.
PRESENTATIONS & OUTCOMES.
I was able to use my primary research to develop a greater understanding of a small but specialised section of the photographic industry. This included three email interviews and one telephone dialogue. My secondary research was slightly different in that I also considered artists’ working with publicly owned archives.
PROFESSIONAL CONTEXT.
I feel I’ve made some useful connections. Each of my interviewees was generous with their time and all have offered further assistance if needed. Two follow my progress on Instagram. I felt rather daunted when one interviewee suggested a phone call, but we had a wonderful conversation and chatted for over 30 minutes. My confidence has definitely increased as I have progressed through the course.
